Bridgeport Art Center

This is the weekend of the Bridgeport Art Walk, and a great place to start is at the Bridgeport Art Center where you will find all sorts of stuff. Now I don't spend a lot of time looking at a whole lot of quantity at an art walk, but I did get a chance to spend some time with Fred Camper's photo collages. Fred combines photos taken from different perspectives and this sometimes works out beautifully, other times it looks like a real estate ad, which is a pretty huge comment in itself.

After wondering the floors of the Bridgeport Art Center for a time, I wound my way to the basement where the artists that own power tools reside, this is where I met Gustav Reyes. Gustav attended the Art Institute years ago, after getting over that hurdle Gus found a passion in bending wood. By making a living constructing rings made of reclaimed and exotic found woods Gus is able to make bent wood sculptures. What amazed me about his work was that he bends all of his wood by hand and at room temperature.

Overall I had a great time at the Bridgeport Art Center. It was my first time there but I would have to say if you are heading down to the Bridgeport art walk you should make it to the basement of the Bridgeport Art Center, it might not be as active but if you wind your way to the back and you will be surprised at what you find.
